Introduction to the Scale Warbird Racing Association

The Scale Warbird Racing Association was formed for those individuals who are interested in the thrill, excitement, and nostalgia of racing radio controlled model aircraft of piston-driven warbirds and replicas of the unlimited "Reno" racers.

The SWRA offers a national membership organization committed to the development and improvement of scale warbird racing and is dedicated to the promotion of Mini-Reno racing events. This event is a pylon race of sport scale radio controlled models of reciprocating-engine military and unlimited racing aircraft. It is intended to capture the excitement and character of the unlimited races held in locations such as Reno, Nevada. The SWRA serves as an Academy of Model Aeronautics recognized Special Interest Group (SIG) to develop and update unified rules, coordinate racing dates for events, and maintain national season point totals for member competitors in the fixed bracket-racing format.

The pylon-racing course is designed to be compatible with the existing layout of most R/C flying fields. The pilots fly in a counter-clockwise rotation, around two pylons, with the aircraft flying parallel to the runway in both directions; in front of the pilots, and beyond an established deadline. Different classes within events allow newcomers through experts to compete at their own skill level. An activity such as this is intended to be fun for spectators as well as for the competitors, and is designed to be a vehicle for individual R/C clubs to generate funds by hosting AMA sanctioned, SWRA endorsed races. The Scale Warbird Racing Association is strictly a member dues supported organization, and does not charge any endorsement fees to, or accept any of the profits from, an R/C club hosting an SWRA endorsed Mini-Reno racing event.

Inquiries regarding membership or any additional information about the Scale Warbird Racing Association may be directed by mail to: SWRA, PO Box 5622, Mesa, Arizona 85211-5622.
